As Chelsea is faced with the transfer ban, they didn't have many options during this recent period. The only players they have signed are Christian Pulisic, who they bought in January but loaned backed to Borussia Dortmund until the of the season, and Mateo Kovacic, who they signed permanently from Real Madrid after his loan deal ended.
A lot of their loanees have returned and Lampard is tasked to use them to their fullest potential. Some names include Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi. Frank Lampard has a team very capable of finishing in the top 4 and winning some silverware and if he uses them to the best of their abilities, then you could see a real surprise from Chelsea this season.
Top London club – Does Chelsea have a chance?
As of now, Chelsea are the top club in London. But, the departure of their main man Eden Hazard to Real Madrid for 100 million euros will leave a big hole to fill in the squad. Now they need to rely on the future prospects Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the focus on the first one.
Is Pulisic able to replace Eden Hazard? Definitely no, at least for now. He is a bright prospect for the future with a lot of potential, he might even surpass Hazard in the next 5 years, but right now, he is nowhere near Hazard's level.
Even though without Hazard, Chelsea have looked good in the preseason going forward. Their defense has weakened, but it should get better when Rudiger and Kante return from injury. Having all that in mind and considering the rise of Tottenham over the past few years, it will be hard to see Chelsea overtaking them, at least in this season.
Premier League top 4 finish odds
The top two teams in the Premier League are most likely to be Manchester City and Liverpool. These two teams seem to be untouchable for Chelsea and the rest of the top six, but you should see an interesting race for the Champions League places. As you have already seen, Tottenham should finish in front of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, but the last-mentioned three teams will fight for 4th place.
Manchester United have massively declined over the past six years, they have acquired some serious defensive reinforcements, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire, but they haven't gotten rid of the deadwood. Arsenal, on the other side, has brought Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos on loan, but there are huge problems in their defense and among all of them, Chelsea looks the most stable.
Chelsea and Manchester United have about the same odds of finishing in the top 4, around 2.10. But as you could have previously seen, Chelsea could have a slight advantage and you should back them in this top 4 race.
Frank Lampard to leave Chelsea
There are many sceptics over Frank Lampard's knowledge and experience. He did well in his first year in management with Derby County, getting them to the Championship playoff final. Chelsea are not allowed to sign new players, which would be a difficult task for every manager, especially for someone who has only been a manager for one year.
Despite this, Frank Lampard knows the club inside out. There is no better time for him to come to Chelsea as a manager because most managers would not sign for a club who can't sign players. Lampard has even played with some of the players still at Chelsea and he'll get the most of the youth players. He will demand respect from every player because none of them can say that they were a better player than him.
He was a part of the most successful Chelsea team in history who won multiple leagues titles, cups, and European trophies. That's the reason why he should be given more time than other managers, even if things go wrong.
